Blogging is something I have wanted to start doing for a while now. I want to reach out to my followers, my people, to tell the story behind what I have come to love doing; to help you see these love stories through my eyes, also to give tips on different things I find helpful.
So for my first post I thought I'd tell you a little about me..... about the type of photos I love to shoot, the people who have taught me and who inspires me.
I decided to start my own business in photography in 2014. I'd just taken my first wedding (for free with the help of a friend) and I was hooked! The wedding was on an unseasonably warm day in March. I'd wanted to help a friend out and they so graciously allowed me to shoot their wedding even though I was a newbie. I had so much fun and realized really quickly that it was my calling!
Over the last nearly 4 years I have learned SOOOO much!! I have also learned that I am very passionate about wedding photography!!! I love getting to preserve that moment in time that allows everyone to go back and retell their story over and over again; that special day S&C couples can show their children and their grandchildren, their love stories for years to come. My hope is that when our couples look back at their wedding pictures they will remember the emotion that they felt that day.
I am Jennifer Smith, the Face behind the camera!
My favorite photos are the kind that you feel the emotion when you look at the photo. I love a good black & white that stops you in your tracks. I love capturing my client's essence and the emotion of that moment, but focusing on them; letting the background, though an integral part of the photograph, be secondary to the person and the moment that we are trying to capture!
Over the years I have followed many photographers and their work. Several have stood out and inspired me, and some I have been fortunate enough to learn from. Jordan and Amy Demos are a husband and wife team that were first teachers and then started their own photography business, who also teach other photographers. I have taken courses from them and hope to take many more. I love their bright and airy style and sweetheart story. Katelyn James is another amazing photographer and marketing genius who I have also taken courses from. She and her husband, Michael, are so great and have the cutest baby!! Also Justin & Mary Marantz, they are such great photographers, and great encouragers, and Zach & Jody Gray, Joel & Amber Palmer, Erin Lindsey, Stephanie Bryan, Bonnie McGhee and the list goes on and on.......but there is one person who I met through photography a year and a half ago and we became instant best friends. I don't know how I made it 29 years without her. That's my girl, Crystal Chambers!!!
These Photographers have inspired me, taught me, and encouraged me, and I am thankful for them.
So if you have photographers that inspire you, I'd love to hear about them......leave a comment telling us about them below!
Happy Friday everyone!!!
